If you stop Celexa do you get severe depression? I have ran out of celexa for about a week now and for about four days had dangerous depression. I am trying to figure out if that is celexa causing that or if i am just losing my mind.

I'll Be A Monkey's Uncle replied: "If the Celexa is controlling your depression then stopping it will allow it to return. The best thing to do is let your doctor or psychiatrist know about it."

Amadeus A replied: "Stopping any SSRI cold turkey is going to lead to problems, depression being one of them. If you have depression, and it's being controlled by celexa, when you stop celexa.....YOU'RE GOING TO GET DEPRESSED. Call your doc, get a script filled, get back on it, go to therapy, help yourself get better."

? replied: "Yikes! That can be really uncomfortable for you, physically! You should get in touch with your doctor and tell him/her what's going on."

Is Celexa good for anxiety & depression? I was just prescribed Celexa for depression & anxiety. I was wondering if anyone has had a good or bad experience with this medicine? My sister who is very much like me went on Paxil & it worked very well for her. My doctor wanted to start me out slow & said if I don't like the Celexa I can switch to Paxil. He prescribed Celexa b/c it has less side effects. So, just wondering if anyone that has been on Celexa likes it or would recommend it? Thanks

whatup replied: "I take celexa and it works wonderfully. I have really bad anxiety and depression. I can't believe how well it works. It took a while to fully work, but once it does its wonderful. My only regret is not taking them sooner in life."

Anna S replied: "I tried 5 SSRI's and none worked for me, and then celexa did. so id say ya"

sjc06 replied: "I love it! 40 mg works wonders for post partum depression and anxiety! I swear by it and tell all my friends they need it!! No it really did work for me and I feel great! Give it a try!"

casondra k replied: "My doctor also prescribed it to me but I haven't taken it yet. I am scared. I tried Zoloft and had a really bad reaction to it. He gave me such a low dose (10mg) but I am still scared. If you do take it.... let me know how it is working for you.... I don't know how much longer I can handle these anxiety/panic attacks... but am to scared to take the medicine. GOOD LUCK!!"

Has anyone ever taken celexa for mild depression and anxiety? Just wondering if anyone has taken celexa for anxiety especiaally gad and ocd.How did you find it I have been taken it for a week and so far I only have one minor symton, and could anyone tell me if its easy to get back off them.

George P replied: "I've taken them for a few months. The only side affect I had was I was sleepy. The pills would keep me restless at night, so I couldn't sleep. I got tired of that, because to me, it was making tihngs worse, not able to function throughout the day. However, it did cause my depression to go into remission. I haven't be truely depressed since i stopped taking them, and that was over 5 years ago."

LTD replied: "I am scared to death of Celexa. My late husband was put on it for depression while in a treatment center for alcoholisim... he was also taking Antibuse. He took his own life two weeks later, leaving me a widow. I will believe until the day I die it was the Celexa. He had NEVER been sucidal before. He & I had been together for 15 years. He died in 2000. I am on Prozac myself and have been for almost 10 years. So I am ALL FOR meds that can help you. I Celexa is not one of the "usually" prescribed meds. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be carreful! Follow what your Dr tells you....if you notice ANY changes in your moods, PLEASE tell your Dr... As with ANY medications for depression and/or anxiety, you have to taper off of them..WITH your Dr's guidance...NEVER try to take "yourself" off of this type of medication..."

Prescripmeds replied: "well celexa is a meds very strong if you are feeling a few symtons and you think that symton is very strong go to your doctor o check this site and see if the symtoms that you have are normal o not "

Greenie replied: "Are you using therapy in conjunction with the drug so it will only be taken on a temporary basis? I had a friend who took this drug for two weeks and her eyes locked. Please be aware of your eyes and call your doctor immediately if you are experiencing any side effects. These drugs are new to the market. And sometimes the side effects are more harmful than what you are treating. Education is key so inform yourself about the medication you are ingesting and the illness you are treating. If you learn more about your condition you can learn new ways of coping without the long term use of drugs."

Has anyone ever been on Celexa for depression? Any side effects that bothered you or anything that you didn't like about it? Wondering if you experienced any weight gain or loss.

Anna replied: "I'm on celexa right now. I've been on 5 other SSRI's, and this has been, by far the most effective. I havn't noticed any side-effect, which is definitely a plus :) Good luck with everything."

mommy007 replied: "I am on the generic of Celexa - The only side effects were a little weight gain and tiredness. The tiredness went away within a week, and I would rather have a few extra pounds and be happy than be skinny and miserable. :) I love my Celexa - it changed my life!!!!"

Brenna B replied: "I was originally prescribed Celexa, then moved to the generic and I am now on something entirely different: this is because after some period of time many people will find that the antidepressant they are taking becomes less effective. The only problems I experienced, which is not uncommon if you educate yourself on the side effects of these types of medications, was weight gain and the typical sexual side effects (inability to orgasm or low sex drive). That is, until I was switched to the generic. The generic was not effective at all for me after taking the brand name for many years. I would recommend that anyone that will be switching to a generic or even a different antidepressant be closely monitored for behavioral changes until you know how it will effect you."

Celexa for mild depression and anxiety? I'm 17 years old. I went to a psychiatrist today and she prescribed me celexa for anxiety and mild depression. I'm pretty nervous about taking it. I've done a little bit of research on celexa but i'm wondering if anyone out there has taken it or is still taking it? what were the side effects, how long did they last, does it work for you, etc. etc? any feedback is appreciated.

Nunya B replied: "i've taken it for 8 yrs now. had mild anxiety. i love it. it works really well for me but i know some people who didn't like it at all. just depends on your body and what works best for you"

Ashley H replied: "I took it for a while last year, but I switched to another medicine. I have ADHD and the new medicine was likely to help with the anxiety. I didn't actually notice any side effects, but that's just me. Hope my answer helps. Good luck with your treatment! <3 Ashley H"

Adriana-♡ replied: "hey there, I'm 16 and on Celexa. (With Concerta). I'm going to be completely honest, it doesn't help for me too much with the depression. But with depression and anxiety it's all about finding the right match for YOU :) It might work for you even though it's not great for me. The plus side is, it's GREAT for anxiety. I didn't realize it until I missed a day and was SO anxious that day, and forgot that it had felt like that before I went on Celexa. The only side effects are mild headaches the first week(for me). Nothing too bad :) Good luck! <3 - Adriana"

gringomcnight replied: "i don't want to discourage you with that medicine but i take that medicine before and it doesn't works for me until i found vilift, why do you check it out, maybe it could help you too!"

Can antidepressants like Celexa actually cause depression? My doctor prescribed Celexa for PTSD because I've had sleeping problems ever since I got back from fighting in Iraq. I didn't really feel depressed before, but now I feel like doing nothing but sleeping even though I still can't. I have a date tomorrow with a cool girl, and I'm not excited about it like I should be. The idea of going to work is dreadful. God! It sucks.

Brutally Honest replied: "There is every possibility that it is interacting unfavorably with your body's chemistry and actually causing depression that was absent previously. If you've been using this drug for a while and the symptoms are getting worse rather than better, then you should contact your doctor and ask to be changed. Also, there are alternatives to anti-depressants if all you're experiencing is sleep disturbance. You could try a sleep aid such as Ambien (which I use and like VERY well). Or you could try psychological therapy without the use of drug therapy. Talk to your doctor or get a referral to a different doctor if he/she is reluctant to help."

orchid11 replied: "I really think it could. Maybe your dose should be lowered and see if that helps. I have definately heard people say they felt kinda like zombies after taking SSRI's. But maybe that is only if theyre taking too much. I've also heard people say ssri's makes them just "not care" about things,. Could also be the wrong SSRI for you - maybe Lexapro would be good. P.S. Thank you for your service!"

why do i get so angry ,Itake celexa For depression but have lost labido? I take celexa for depression,But I still get angry and lost labido

Michigan4life replied: "Try just walking for 20 or 30 minutes each day. Or light weight lifting or some kind of cardio workout for 20 30 minutes. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of moderate excercise relieves just as much stress and more, than 9 hours of sleep or other type of depression pills."

ShoeGal replied: "I just stopped taking celexa because it made me worse too. You need to go back to your doctor, and ask to be put on something else, since it is not working. I'm trying my fourth anti-depressant. Hope you find one that works for you, I haven't yet. Celexa did the same thing to me. It doesn't work on everybody."

heather h replied: "me too!!! not so much angry..but i take effexor for depression and anxiety..i have also tried paxil..CELEXA..busporone..amnytriptolyn..and more...and i seem to have lost my libido as well..with some prescriptions that is a side effect"

caffsans replied: "hi go to whoever it is that you get your pills fromand ask that person if there is an anger management course you can take=I did this myself and you wouldnt beleive how much it has helped= you gotta try it"

stormb55 replied: "do you have major issues in your life like chronic pain or just depressed about life in general? If you suffer from a major issue this could add to your feeling of anger. If its just life then welcome to the club! Life is very hard and frustrating... If you are a man this western world of ours really puts us under a lot of pressure to be real MEN but everything around us tells us to be like Will from will and grace... This is not what we are supposed to be like we need adventure and a battle to fight to make us feel alive.... If you are a woman just trying to deal with men who are so unhappy all the time can led to real anger as you can not really do anything to change how they feel. Generally men reach for an escape to make them feel better (drugs, gambling, porn) and a woman I would be angry watching my male friends killing themselves... I don't know if this helps but you are not alone... I battle my anger every day even though I have two kids a nice home and a loving wife I still get so angry I could lose it! I have also been on celexa although I was suffering from a chronic pain situation (I was also in Oxycontin, but that's another story) I am now off of both drugs and I just try to take it day by day..... I also find that paintball is a really good outlet for my anger... Just to let you know I got so angry before Christmas that I put my hand through a inch thick door which resulted in me breaking my hand it GOD was the anger not worth it!!! Hope I helped..."

toddk57@sbcglobal.net replied: "well: because it's needed to controll your anger .Also find something very relaxing during the day in many ways yes yourself could use less stress by counting 10 -1 backwards try that ok?"

I am on 10 mg of celexa for depression from accident will anything work better and not destroy my liver? exercise would be great but I am paralized on my left and can't walk

Plan B replied: "Studies show that exercising is a good way to relieving depression."

gringomcnight replied: "if you're looking for all natural and no harmful side effects to you body, i think you better check out vilift, i've been using that for almost a month and it's really good, i personally recommend that but you should check it first."

If you are taking celexa not for depression does it have bad side effects? celexa keeps you from having an orgasm what can you do

screamyourheartout replied: "if it usually has bad side effects, it will still have bad side effects regardless of what you are using it for. the side effects are not associated with the depression, they are associated with the drug. so it can have the usual side effects. bear in mind that these don't happen to everyone anyway, if you need the medication, take it."

ZIGGIE replied: "It doesn't matter what you are taking any drug for, the side effects are the same regardless. Yes, anti depressants suppress the sexual desires and urges and can interfer with orgasm. You need to just work through it, which means, when you can you do and enjoy AND when you can't you don't and you enjoy just the same."

kappys replied: "1rst, if you are not taking this for depression, why are you on the medication? All prescribed medications, legal or otherwise have known side-effects. It is best to discuss the medications use with your personal health care provider and even more to your local pharmacists. Many people may have some, none or variations of all the side effects. What other medications are you on, as Ultram (tramadol) Trazadone, amphetamines, and other antidepressants are known to cause drug to drug side-effects. Talk with your ppp, and honestly inform her/him of all other medications you are taking along with all the OTC's."

MICHAEL F replied: "if you're not depressed, why are you taking it? what shoemaker dr. gave it to you? find a new dr. and stop the celexa."

YA Junkie replied: "Celexa is not only used for depression, as your doctor probably told you. It can also be used for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, anxiety disorder, premenstrual dysphoric syndrome (PMDD), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you want more info on celexa, go to: Most of the time, the side effects of drugs are related to the dose you take. A small dose usually means less side effects. A bigger dose means usually means more side effects. However, some people get few side effects on a drug, while others get more side effects with the same drug. (It's not fair!) You can google "celexa dosage" and find out if you are taking a small or large dose. You will probably get the same side effects for celexa whether you are taking it for depression or some other problem. When men get sexual side effects from celexa, they sometimes get a prescription for viagra or similar drugs. I am not sure if there are similar drugs for women, but you can look at the following link: I know it may be embarrassing, but you might want to talk to your doctor about any sexual side effects. You have the right to know. Best wishes."

alexis replied: "I am curious as to why you're taking Celexa, if not for depression - but many prescriptions can be used as "off-label" medicines for other conditions - so that may be the case with you. Either way, the side effects would still be the same. I am currently on Celexa (or shall I say, off and on - depending how I feel). I was prescribed Celexa for depression and it worked wonders for me. The side effects are not horrendous but what I did notice were some unfavorable sexual changes (inability to orgasm), and that put quite a damper on things for a while (that's probably my biggest complaint about the Celexa). Other than that, the only other side effect I personally noticed was a "numbness" or lack of effect. Instead of being horribly depressed, I didn't seem to care about anything! (Trust me though, it was a GOOD thing for me not to feel what I had been feeling.) For other people, that may NOT be a good thing - especially if you are not specifically taking it for depression. You may find that you become numb or emotionally supressed to things going on around you, etc. As for the side effects upon going off of Celexa, there were no noticeable ones for me. It seems to be an easy prescription to quit with very little or no withdrawal symptoms (a good thing). So it's one of those medications you can use and decide not to use, depending on whether you can deal with the minimal side effects or not. All of this is best discussed with your doctor who would know more than I would; but this is my own personal experience with the medication and it wasn't a bad experience at all. Start at a low dose though, and work your way up. Eventually, it stops working and you will have to switch to something else - depending upon what condition you are taking it for (mine stopped working at 80 mg but that's pretty high, considering I started at 10 mg). Again, your mileage may vary - everyone experiences medications differently - for instance, Valium keeps me wide awake, LOL Just be informed, and you're doing the right thing by asking questions before you take something. Good luck, and take care."
