YA Junkie replied: "Celexa is not only used for depression, as your doctor probably told you. It can also be used for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, anxiety disorder, premenstrual dysphoric syndrome (PMDD), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
If you want more info on celexa, go to:
Most of the time, the side effects of drugs are related to the dose you take. A small dose usually means less side effects. A bigger dose means usually means more side effects. However, some people get few side effects on a drug, while others get more side effects with the same drug. (It's not fair!) You can google "celexa dosage" and find out if you are taking a small or large dose.
You will probably get the same side effects for celexa whether you are taking it for depression or some other problem.
When men get sexual side effects from celexa, they sometimes get a prescription for viagra or similar drugs. I am not sure if there are similar drugs for women, but you can look at the following link:
I know it may be embarrassing, but you might want to talk to your doctor about any sexual side effects. You have the right to know. Best wishes."
alexis replied: "I am curious as to why you're taking Celexa, if not for depression - but many prescriptions can be used as "off-label" medicines for other conditions - so that may be the case with you.
Either way, the side effects would still be the same. I am currently on Celexa (or shall I say, off and on - depending how I feel). I was prescribed Celexa for depression and it worked wonders for me.
The side effects are not horrendous but what I did notice were some unfavorable sexual changes (inability to orgasm), and that put quite a damper on things for a while (that's probably my biggest complaint about the Celexa). Other than that, the only other side effect I personally noticed was a "numbness" or lack of effect. Instead of being horribly depressed, I didn't seem to care about anything! (Trust me though, it was a GOOD thing for me not to feel what I had been feeling.) For other people, that may NOT be a good thing - especially if you are not specifically taking it for depression. You may find that you become numb or emotionally supressed to things going on around you, etc.
As for the side effects upon going off of Celexa, there were no noticeable ones for me. It seems to be an easy prescription to quit with very little or no withdrawal symptoms (a good thing). So it's one of those medications you can use and decide not to use, depending on whether you can deal with the minimal side effects or not.
All of this is best discussed with your doctor who would know more than I would; but this is my own personal experience with the medication and it wasn't a bad experience at all. Start at a low dose though, and work your way up. Eventually, it stops working and you will have to switch to something else - depending upon what condition you are taking it for (mine stopped working at 80 mg but that's pretty high, considering I started at 10 mg).
Again, your mileage may vary - everyone experiences medications differently - for instance, Valium keeps me wide awake, LOL
Just be informed, and you're doing the right thing by asking questions before you take something. Good luck, and take care."
